Resuscitation: Consent for Blood Replacement Therapy:
Consent is required outlining the following risks:
- Circulatory overload or minor allergy – both 1 in 100.
- Acute hemolytic reaction – 1:40,000
- Sepsis – 1 in 200,000 for platelets. Less common with PRBC
- Viral infection - less than 1 in 7 million
A filter is required for PRBC transfusion that must be 170-260 micron
